The designs on my gourds are usually inspired by the interplay
between colors and shapes as well as by southwestern, Native
American, African, and other ethnic designs. In creating these
pieces I usually use pyrography to outline the elements of the
design and dyes and acrylic and metallic paints to bring the
designs to life. Each gourd is then sealed to preserve the
colors. Often I add embellishments, such as python vertebrae,
beads, charms, feathers, and other items. The rattles are
filled with soy-, black-, or other beans.
